ESPN Story: Jason Garrett ’89 Charity & Unique Bond With Opponent

  • October 12, 2015

“In the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations” is Princeton University’s motto for the commitment to service through the influence of positive change. Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett, Princeton University Class of 1989, holds this sentiment close to his heart and embodies the Princeton motto in his Starfish Charities.

Every year since 2003, Jason invites student-athletes from inner city schools from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania to help with both football and life skills that will prepare them for the next season and beyond.  The purpose of the Play It Smart Football Camp and Leadership Forum is to inspire the participants to excel and to focus on having college as part of their future plans. ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown did a feature on Garrett’s annual one-day camp and it’s connection to current Patriots Defensive Tackle, Dominique Easley.
