Theme of the Day 9/8/16 | Finish!
Day 16 | Practice 20 – Today’s practice was a combination of “camp” and we started some preparation for Lafayette with some base looks from our game last year.
Tidbits – NFL starts tonight. We had 5 scouts at our practice yesterday afternoon, and with Seth DeValve, Caraun Reid and Mike Catapano all making rosters we have become a prime spot for them to check out our players.
Misc. – We will have a controlled scrimmage vs. Moravian Sunday at 10 am. It will likely be held on the practice fields.
Past & Present – Today’s feature includes current Senior LB RJ Paige from Loomis-Chaffee HS, CT and former and current Dallas Cowboys Head Coach QB Jason Garrett ’89. After providing support in both the LB rotation and special teams during the 2013 Ivy League championship, RJ Paige has been a solidified starter. Paige recorded multiple tackles in all 10 games of his sophomore year, and proved to be a dependable & consistent producer his junior year. Going into this season, Paige wants nothing more than to bookend his collegiate career with his second Ivy League Championship.
QB Jason Garrett graduated Princeton University in 1989 with a degree in history. At Princeton in 1987 and 1988, Garrett completed 366 of 550 passes (66.5%) for 4,274 yards and 20 touchdowns and won the Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League Player of the Year. He continues to hold the Ivy League career record for completion percentage with 66.5% (366–550) and his 1988 percentage of 68.2% (204–299) stood as the league record until 2000.
Although going undrafted in the 1989 NFL draft, Garrett ended up playing in the NFL from 1993-2004. After retiring, he coached the QBs under Nick Saban’s Miami Dolphins. From 2007-2010, Garrett was the offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. During November of 2010, Jason Garrett was named Head Coach for the Cowboys and has held that position ever since.
Jason founded the Jason Garrett Starfish Charities, which is a non-profit charitable foundation whose mission is to strive to make our community a better place by enriching the lives of its youths.
